A Driving Exercise

I have somewhat of what they call a "heavy foot". I mean, I don't think that I do, however the local law enforcement officers around here disagree. (These guys really pick on me unmercifully) Anyway, the other day I got another one of those ticket thingys that they like to pass out alot here in Florida... again!!! I wasn't even doing anything!!! Crap, this story makes me a little up tight, please bear with me. Let me skip ahead.

So the other night while driving home from the folks house with my wife and daughter, after a long day and in somewhat of a discusted mood, I defiantly announced to the family that I was NOT going to speed at all. In fact, I was going to carefully and deliberately observe every nasty little posted speed marker all the way home. (My parents live in another town some 20 miles away down the interstate.)

Now, there is also lots of dumb Florida road construction going on which started back during Watergait. (They cant seem to find the finish line.) Off we went and I started out at the posted .......45mph. (road construction is very important to the Amrican psyche, and this was just the rural area.) 40mph now! (10 minutes later!) 45 again ... change lanes ("those people are all flying by us honey and they aren't getting pulled over... DID YOU SEE THAT ONE !!!!")

Now the bridge. (They're working on it too... as it was damaged by a hurricane 4 years ago!) All done there, now to 50, 55 (1/4 a mile)---> 60 now back to 45! #*%^$@()&!!! ......"THEY ARE ALL PASSING US NOW!!!" "That doesn't matter dear, you are not going to get a ticket following the rules, and that's for sure.." my beautiful wife responds in a very gentle voice, too gentle in my opinion, considering the circumstances! (I'm driving like my dad now.)

Finally 75. Whew !!! Hold on, this really feels fast to me. (I was use to 80!!! Weird!!!)

Any way to make a long story short, I did arrive back home (using cruise control in a new and wonderful way) and with a healthy perspective about how brilliant city and road planners expect me to drive... Us to drive in this great country. I got no ticket that night and even though it took us an extra 2 hours to get home I followed the rules. So children, always remember that when you're caught speeding... If you are like me, you probably were. And if you live in Florida I don't blame you. "Hey that light was orange ... not red!!!"

In Memorandum

On my top ten list of people I have always wanted to meet, somewhere around number seven or eight was Steve Irwin. A few years ago, after his silly movie came out, my wife and I bought his DVD. (well okay...I bought the DVD thanks to my wife's indulgence) And, what we really enjoyed about the DVD was the special features, where you got to get a look behind the scenes, and I can tell you that after hearing Steve and Terri's story, you would gain a new respect for this man, his family and his work. He loved animals and people and knew how to bring them together. Let's face it, anyone can get you to pet a horse, but Steve could get you to feed a iguana or appreciate a black widow spider. I believe it was his genuine goal for mundane and shallow people to see the purpose and God-given beauty in the unusual, different and fearful creatures in our world. What a terrific and rare gift to actually be able to achieve that. We should all erect him a giant marble statute for breaking us in with his passion and his vision. Memorials have been built for lesser people.

Today, I explained the difference between bumble bees and dragon flies to my three year old daughter. She is very interested in insects now. Thanks Steve for getting me to this very important first step. Thanks for your inspiration and maybe we will meet one day....after all. May you rest in the Lord.

G'day mate!

post 1

First post- hope this goes well. My wife is an excellent .. "Blogger", and I think I will try this out.
I wanted to create a nice little hobby for myself with little commitment or obligation.
I think this will be better than watching late-night TV... ie. I am the late night type.

Please reader let the thoughts come honestly and thank you in advance for your time.

Let's share a delightful
muddle together.

Hi to all my fellow
